Hi guys.

I am installing X when it complains that the mouse is not installed, so i check the bootup and it looks like it doesnt find my Optical USB mouse.

How can i configure GRUB to look for the mouse in USB, but not PS/2

For every USB device the way is the same.
Code:
emerge hotplug

Code:
emerge coldplug

Code:
rc-update add coldplug boot

and ofcourse to add the neccessary lines for your usb mouse in the device section of your /etc/X 11/xorg.conf

I already have coldplug, but the /dev/mouse cant be found.

The coldplug may have set up the USB mouse, but i cant find it on the /dev folder.

Maybe a little help locating it here :)

P.S.
i already tried giving the Protocol "USB" and "usb" but both give an error, saying unknown protocol so i keep it "auto"

For a usb mouse you have to use /dev/input/mice or /dev/mice. Try changing the mouse device to that in your xorg.conf file. If that doesn't work in console type cat /dev/input/mice and try moving the mouse around if that is the correct device it should draw a bunch of characters to the screen, if not try a different device like /dev/mice or /dev/mouse0, use Ctrl + C to exit. As far as protocol goes just use auto.
