Hi,

Does anyone if kernel (gentoo-sources 2.6.10) support Mt. Rainier. If not, is there other kernel that support it? I tried to google for Mt. Rainier support in Linux, but the informations found are incompelete and outdated.

Are there tools like udftools that format DVD in Mt. Rainier format? Afterall, my older LiteON DVD writer support it (but my BENQ doesn't >_< I should be check it more carefully before buying it).

It seems Mt. Rainier support is really missing. At least, it isn't usable as for now. The only 'real' thing I found about it when I was wondering if there could be anything usable is this link. However, the created binary doesn't work for me.. :(
It is said to use packet writing. But since I tried it months ago, nothings seems to have improved. What I did was
Code:
mkudffs /dev/dvd
/mount /dev/dvd
cp somefile /mnt/dvd

It takes forever (if it works at all) and pushes the kernel to its limit.. (highest sys cpu!)

Don't know why this can't be fixed; would improve linux system/technology a lot. It's sad that neither redhat nor suse or fedora (who might have the knowledge and manpower) didn't pick this up..

I'd be interested if you had any more info.. maybe even working solutions? (besides dvdram btw. these seem to work fine. we're talking about usual dvd+-rw I think)

Sebastian
