recently I wanted to update my system with emerge -uD world. I recognized that many programs are not updatet. for example I get the following output:
Code:
DeskBenni ~ # emerge -upv mozilla
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] www-client/mozilla-launcher-1.41 [1.23] 6 kB
[ebuild     U ] gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.10.1-r1 [2.10.0-r2]
[ebuild     U ] www-client/mozilla-1.7.10-r1 [1.7.5]
Total size of downloads: 32,072 kB

while emerge -u world leads to
Code:
DeskBenni ~ # emerge -upv world
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] sys-kernel/genkernel-3.3 [3.2.10]
Total size of downloads: 6,787 kB

what is going on here? I use the most recent portage version 2.0.51.22-r2

Thank you for answers

try "emerge -uDp world"

this should show the right result
"emerge -u world" just checks "manully" installed packages (/var/lib/portage/world) and there direct (first level) dependencies

you probably have mozilla installed because of some "indirect" dependency

if you check "cat /var/lib/portage/world | grep mozilla" they should not be there

if you look at "emerge -etp world", they should show up at the second (or higher) level of the tree

no, it doesn't!, no mozilla appears.
BTW the same problem is with kdevelop and lyx etc.
Code:
DeskBenni ~ # emerge -uDp world
Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild     U ] dev-libs/atk-1.10.1 [1.9.1]
[ebuild     U ] gnome-base/libglade-2.5.1 [2.5.0]

[ebuild     U ] sys-devel/gdb-6.3-r4 [6.0]
[ebuild     U ] dev-util/kdevelop-3.2.1-r1 [3.1.2]

For me, this seems like a portage bug!

thank you for answers

i guess mozilla was installed as a dependency. (probably due to the "mozilla" USE-Flag) or you cleaned up your world-file

plz post the output of "emerge -epv world"

if mozilla and kdevelop won't show up they should appear with a "emerge --pretend --depclean"

Otherwise i'm (probably) without anymore ideas
