hi,

i have almost finished another amd64 installation here, but ran into some trouble.
After emerging and starting metalog it show up in top with 100% CPU-usage, i think it didn't do that before and should not do this now. But i don't know what the problem is?

While i was searching for some error messages, i found out, that dmesg also has problems. It gives me absolutely no output, not even after a restart..

since i have no logger, i don't know what logs i could post.. sry.

Hi, Strowi,
Why don't you try to merge the logger?
Also after starting metalog, did you come back to the normal prompt?

Thank you.

hi,

what do you mean by "logger" ?
Metalog merged fine. I start metalog through "/etc/init.d/metalog start" and everything else works fine as it should, except the CPU usage.
I tried both version, stable and unstable one:
metalog-0.8_pre20031130 and 0.8._rc1-r1

OK, did you try any other logger?
We need to make sure that it's this one...

Thank you.

hi,

solved those 2 problems by recompiling my kernel. Guess somehow 'printk support' must have dissapeared.

Thx for your help!

I can only recommend not to use metalog. Use syslog-ng instead. Many apps that use log-output seem to have problems with metalogs format/files.

well, i haven't had any problems with metalog up until that misconfigured kernel made it use 100% CPU.

On my other machine it also runs very well.

Just wanted to point out that metalog has a different naming of logfiles and some apps expect the names of the logfiles like syslog(-ng) does name them. So you might eventually run into trouble or you have to adjust filenames in your program manually. Also logging to console didnt work for me with metalog.
