ALE one-hand keyboard will not work.

Recently, I found out about ALE one-hand keyboard (http://www.fourtytwo.de/one-hand/index.html). So, I tried patching my kernel (linux-2.6.13-rc3), which failed, so I installed a 2.6.8 kernel, patched it successfully, compiled, etc. When I rebooted with the patched kernel my keybaord didn't work at all.

So, my question is, does anyone know how to get this working? Or alternatively, does anyone know of another kernel patch or separate program that will do something similar?
