I'm trying to run MOL on my oldworld g3. I gather the best way to use MOL on oldworld machines is by getting a ROM file and using newworld boot. I have two ROM files, one from an 8.6 CD and the other from a 9.1 CD, but MOL doesn't even make it far enough to scan hard disks, much less load a ROM. I get:
Code: | $ startmol
Mac-on-Linux 0.9.71-pre1 [Jul 26 2005 23:45]
Copyright (C) 1997-2004 Samuel Rydh
Starting MOL session 0
Loading Mac-on-Linux kernel module:
/usr/lib/mol/0.9.71/modules/2.6.12.2-1/mol.ko
mknod: `/dev/mol': File exists
Creating the /dev/net/tun device node.
The kernel module '/usr/lib/mol/0.9.71/modules/2.6.12.2-1/tun.o' appears to be missing.
Running in PowerPC 750 mode, 64 MB RAM

Could not open '/var/lib/mol/x11.kbd'

| ...and it hangs there for several minutes, displaying nothing in the window or on the console.
I ran the program to setup video, got rid of sheep from my molrc.macos, changed the network device from eth0 to eth1, and customized the blkdevs. If I don't include molrc.net, it hangs after starting the video. What might I have overlooked?

I'm not sure if it will help but since the messages say:
The kernel module '/usr/lib/mol/0.9.71/modules/2.6.12.2-1/tun.o' appears to be missing.
move the file tun.ko which is probably in /usr/lib/mol/0.9.71/modules to /usr/lib/mol/0.9.71/modules/2.6.12.2-1. It's an annoying bug in the mol installer. |

I still haven't solved the main problem, but when I do at least I know the netwroking will work. |

It looks like the problem only affects classic. I can make it all the way to an OSX bootloader.
EDIT: my Tiger "backup" CDs aren't booting, but Panther CDs boot into the installation program |

Are you trying to Boot OS9 from a partition with both OSX and OS9? That won't work, OS9 needs to be on a seperate partition.
If not, perhaps you could check with an strace to see where it's getting stuck?
Have you tried disabiling Networking? _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

I had an HFS partition with 9.1 and an HFS+ partition to install OSX on. I tried disabling everything except video and input, but it still didn't boot, even from CD.
Unfortunately, I ended up giving OSX the entire disk because Panther didn't think it could boot my pre-prepared HFS+ partition, so 9.1 is gone now. It doesn't matter to me though, because I have little desire to run classic. If you want more info on this, I could strace a cdboot, but it's no longer an issue for me. |
