When i tried for the first time to get Gnome installed i get the following error:
Code: | * getfilevar requires 2 variables, with the second a valid file.
* getfilevar <VARIABLE> <CONFIGFILE>
* Could not find a usable .config in the kernel source directory.
* Please ensure that /usr/src/linux points to a configured set of Linux sources.
* If you are using KBUILD_OUTPUT, please set the environment var so that
* it points to the necessary object directory so that it might find .config. |
This baffles me, since i juste recently reinstalled Gentoo after a HD crash. I am a n00b in all things linux and i can't seem to find an answer on the forums.
The total output of my shell:
Code: | >>> emerge (1 of 142) sys-apps/hal-0.4.7-r2 to /

You haven't configured your kernel sources yet. Copy your .config to /usr/src/linux and do a Code: | make oldconfig && make |
The make may not be required, I think that there's a make modules_prepare or similar target that could work as well, but I know that make will do it all.

Thanx, I copied the backup config from my /boot to /usr/src/linux/.config
This seems to have done the trick. What i do not understand is how i have a working system, but the .config was not in the right directory? Or is it not neccesary for the .config to be saved in /usr/src/linux? _________________ Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten! |
