Hi.

Ive battled for the past two weeks getting gentoo to run on my G3 Lombard

Finally got all the packages i want installed, i just need to configure X. I first tried Xautoconfig, which used "fbdev" as my video driver. This didnt work, so i tried switching it to "ati". Doing this produces an all white screen, which i am unable to CRTL+ALT+BCKSPC out of. It would be nice if someone out there with a running lombard could post their Xorg.conf. I will post mine if you think it is necessary.

Thanks

PS. Anyone know had problems/solutions to the system being unable to find/use the hardware clock? What about sluggish keyboards (like occasional lag between typing) ?

Have you tried Xorgautoconfig yet?

Which video card is in that laptop?

yeah, tried Xautoconfig, as stated in the post, the generated config file doesnt work, probably because it uses the fbdev driver. the laptop has an ati mach 64 i believe (ive tried the ati driver with the ChipSet "mach64" ), all configs so far either don't work or give me just a solid white screen, no mouse no nothing.

Xorgautoconfig doent solve the problem. It produces an xorg.conf almost exactly identical to the one generated by Xautoconfig (video driver "fbdev"). Substituting the drivers r128, radeon, or ati produces only the white screen i discussed before.

What would really be a big help is if someone who has a g3 lombard running X could post their config.

While we're still waiting for a G3 lombard user to show up, what framebuffer driver are you using? You should be using the Mach64 one.

What video depth do you have it set to? How about the display resolution?
My Mach64 mac will only work at 15bit color.

Can you provide the information from Xorgautoconfig --dump?

The OFfb means that you're using the openfirmware framebuffer. Please try the Mach64 one instead by passing video=atyfb to your kernel on boot.
