Hi !
i've just received my Optical Fibre 10 mb today !
and I i'm asking to you, VPN gurus, about a few problems:
First, my connection is trought a VPN (I can't change anything about it).
Under Windows XP, I must set the network card from "auto negociate" to "10Mb Full Duplex"... I dunno how to do it under gentoo so I can't find out to make my servers on the new connection.
Also, It's the more important problem... I can't connect a hub !!
If i connect my Gigabyte hub to the VPN switch, everything stops. I have no longer net... Even if I use my Windows XP machine which normally works when directly in the VPN port.
I can't say how i'll be grateful to whoever help me.

I don't think this really has much to do with the problems you describe.

If you have to do this then the ethernet interface on the cable modem must be truly brain-dead i.e. it can't negotiate a speed. I'm intrigued that the card in the PC doesn't work this out though.
Either ethtool or mii-util (from mii-diag package) can force the bit rate on most ethernet cards.
