Is there any form of hardware encryption support? I'm asking because I like the layout of gentoo and I'm the most familiar with it along with a great community. But I haven't had any luck finding any form of hardware support for encryption accelerators.
So currently I'm leaning toward openBSD because from what I've read of their docs they have excellent hardware encryption support, I'm working on an embedded project which includes hardware encryption, so at this moment I'm looking for some hardware encryption support for gentoo, other wise I'll probably go on over to openBSD for that project. |

I mean a dedicated encryption card that is designed to speed up encryption, I know that the latest revision of the via c3 has a hardware encryption engine in their cpu, which is bloody fast, includes AES and so forth, but that's a different project for another day.
What I'm looking at, is this older card Soekis vpn 1401
Its sort of dated now, but it will enable the Soekis enbeaded board to handle an VPN/ssh tunnel. I'm constructing this as a project to learn more about embeaded systems and networking, anyway I want to be able to VPN/ssh tunnel to it from anywhere on campus, and the cpu isn't powerful enough to handle high grade encryption, but with the card it should help out alots.
I've been looking around and to be frank the linux cryplogoy API and so forth is a big mess from what I've seen of it. So i'm wondering if there is any current project or anything that has to do with hardware encryption for linux?
Or will I have to go to openBSD for this project, I've read up on their documination and appearly from the ground up they have execellent hardware encryption support. |
