The Intel graphics adapter you speak of is integrated into the i915GM chipset.

The i915GM is not currently supported by Xfree86 or Xorg. Xorg support is planned, using the i810 driver, but it was not included in 6.8.2, so you will have to wait for 6.9/7.0 or use the RC

You will only be able to use the vesa driver until then, so no OpenGL-accelerated games for you.

The 915GM doesn't include a Intel Extreme 2 card but a GMA900 (Graphics Media Accelarator 900). It was the old 855GM that included IEx2.
The GMA is supported in the newest Xorg CVS release and afair uses the i810 (I can be wrong here, it could be called i915).

But there should be plenty of support of your card.
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Extreme_Graphics_2 maybe you should try a newer Xorg and try to enable DRI and such stuff.
