Hi. I'm having a little trouble getting Gentoo up and running on an old machine. It's a Pentium 233mhz with 128MB of ram....an old Gateway. My problem is that portage is refusing to sync. I've tried 3 different rsync servers as well as the web-rsync too. I tried it both yesterday and today with no luck. When I do an "emerge sync" I get this message:

Code:
rsync error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(88)
Notice: (-3, "Temporary failure in name resolution")

When I do an "emerge-webrsync", I get this message over and over again as it goes through various dates.

Code:

No md5sum present on the server (not available yet)

After getting this error I selected a different batch of mirros too, but still no change.

I know it's not a problem with my network because I have Gentoo on another (much newer) computer and it works just fine... And I know I'm getting a network connection because I can bring up links2 and surf around on this machine. Any ideas what the problem is?

ZephyrXero

Just a shot in the dark, you have set the date and time correct on your machine ?

Did you copy /etc/resolv.conf to /mnt/gentoo/etc/resolv.conf (noting the spelling of resolv)?

Glad I could help. :D

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of resolve problems (I wasn't quite sure it was the same problem earlier).
