|
|
Hi,
I have installed samba on a test gentoo box at my job. We have no problem accessing the server with windows 98, or 2k. But when we use windows XP, it refuses to see the server. We are not using a WINS server, and the main network servers are novell. Does anyone know of any conflicts with windows xp? Thank you |

I've never had a problem with samba and Win XP. Do you have WINS enabled in your samba config?

I dont think you need a server, as in something like dhcp, but you probably do need to enable support for it in samba. You know microsoft products, it their way or nothing at all and I beleive that WINS is always active in some form in windows. Try enabling it and see how you come out....

Enabling WINS still gets nothing, i enbaled it on the windows xp computer and in the samba config, i've also enabled NetBEUI on the windows xp comp. also, with the win98 comp i can see all the comps online in the network neighborhood. with winxp i cannot see anything other then the novell servers we are using...i know this is an xp problem but i dont know any other message boards and if someone else does please let me know. thank you |
