Umm... I have a very strange problem with Nautilus. I don't know what to do about it! So I would be very gratefull if I could get some help here...

My gnome 2.2 works perfect from emerge, Nautilus is working perfect, except for one thing; whenever I create a selection box wider than 300 pixels X locks up. Other applications would still continue to run in the background, my box still had ping and so on. So I've tried to kill X remotely, but that locks the box up hard, a reboot is then needed to recover it.

The file selection box created in Nautilus with the mouse holding down the left mouse button can be as tall as possible, with no limits at all, it works fine. But if I widen it to about 300 pixels as said before, it dies.

My software is gnome 2.2, Xfree86 4.2.99.4, nvidia drivers (not the newest) and the gentoo sources kernel.

Please help me, I am very puzzled about this!

Thank you in advance,
Frenion

I got the same problem (same setup, nvidia 3123/xfree 4.2.99.3-r2/gnome 2.2-r2 /nautilus 2.2.1 (older versions had the same)/gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r1)

I suspect the problem comes form running xfree 4.2.99, but it could be the 2.2 version of nautilus (installed that when I already ran xfree 4.2.99)

2.1.5 nautilus and xfree 4.2.1 worked fine

I have had this problem since early versions of gnome 2.1 with nvidia 32xx and xfree 4.2.99.4... with nvidia 41xx series, i no longer had the problem, but unfortunately, the 2d acceleration was so slow that it wasnt useful.

I had the same problem running xfree 4.2.1 and Gnome 2.2, so I guess it's a Nautilus 2.2 problem.

I tried to run X without the nvidia 3xxx drivers, with the nv driver instead. The crashes stopped.
Seems like is an issue with Nautilus+nvidia driver 3xxx.

Anyone who knows how to fix this stuff?

I've found the solution to the problem!

put this option in your device section in your Xfree config file, and the crashes stop!:

Code:
Option     "NoRenderAccel"              "True"

Weee! :)
