This is what I did. I boot the dvd. (I ran out of cd-r's). It boot perfectly.
I type in gentoo when im prompted.
It loads and shows the root # thingy.
I type p and it prints up the table.

and it shows.

/dev/hda1p1
/dev/hda1p2
/dev/hda1p3
/dev/hda1p4

And it says something about partition 1 overlaps partition 2 or something like that.

I used Partition Magic 8.

And I dunno what has happened. I have a 40 GB HDD.

The partition size was 38,201.4 MB before I resized Windowx XP Professional.

Now the partition is 29,996.3 MB with 8205.1 MB unallocated. What can I do. I thought about resizing Windows back to the way it was. Please help me. and thank you.
I hope this was enough info.

sounds like you want dual boot rite.all u did wrong using magic partation.i dont know about magic partation all i know that its use for resizing winblow partation im not sure about *nix partationing as you mentioned its now showing meanz it doestnt support.boot again with ur gentoo cd and this time i recommend you to use "cfdisk" and u also didnt mentioned on which partaion u were trying to install gentoo.for instance if you wish to install it on hda1 mean your C: partaion and hda0 ur entire hard drive.i hope you find ur lost space by using "cfdisk" might magic partation doestnt support non-dos partationing im not sure too  .

I ran defragment under windows and it didn't say I don't need to defrag. I never had any problem with PM when I used other linuxes before. Just I have it now with this. It's strange. Well I resized the Windows partition back to normal. And I resized it again and this is what it shows in PM.

Partition Type Size MB UsedMB UnusedMB Status Pri/Log

Local C NTFS 30,004.2 2515.3 27,488.9 Active Primary
Local * Linux Ext2 39.2 1.3 37.9 None Primary
SwapSpace2 Linux Swap 517.7 0.0 517.7 None Primary
(*) Extended 7640.3 7640.3 0.0 None Primary
Local Disk * Linux Ext3 7640.3 271.9 7368.4 None Primary
