|

I'm having some problem with my computer in the sence that it crashes way to often. After some research (mostly done by others, thank you so much) I have come to the conclution that I probably need a new motherboard. So, is there any brand I should or shouldn't take? (Working with linux, other compatibilities.) Is it possible to just "switch" the motherboard and still use the same cpu, graphics card and so on? (Of course with support for the new board compiled in the kernel.) Would my system work just as before? Can I keep my installation? (Please tell me I can!!!! ) |

lemino,
At most you should only need a kernel rebuild. There may be a little bit of fine tuning to get everythign back the way you like.
Stay away from PC Chips motherboards. In general, PC motherboards are commodity devices now.
That means you get what you pay for - margins are low.
Anything with an nVidia nForce2 chipset will be OK if you want Athelon 32 bit support.
VIA is next
SiS after that. _________________ Regards,

Anyone who knows if a "Soltek SL-65KV2-CT" would be a good choice? It's the only board I've found with the right form-factor to a resonable price. They seem to have a VIA-chipset... |

lemino,
Thats quite an old board now, only 133MHz SDRAM support.
Does it suit the stuff you want to migrate to it ?
CPU, Memory ... ?
Its very rare for motheboards to cause crashes too.
Whats your setup now and how did you conclude its a motherboard problem?
Do/did you overclock ? _________________ Regards,
