|
|
I have a strange problem,
After a lot of reading the forum, I got my soundcard (Intel HD Audio) to work through alsa, using the alsa-driver package. I tested it with noatun and JuK, and everything seems fine. However, when I tried to play jingles through the KDE sound system (in the control center), I get no results. I have alsa selected as ausio device.
Do I need to rebuild KDE with the USE flag alsa? And where to I check if that flag hasn't been set already? I am using a 2.6.12 kernel, and I don't have the /etc/make.conf/make.defaults file.
Any help is appreciated, thank you,
Indystef

Are you talking about the 'System Notifications'?? Even if you use alsa, it uses arts for that. Unless you setup an external player. I use an external players instead of arts.
While we are on arts, did you compile your system with 'arts' use flag?
So, what to do, if you are talking about system notifications:
1) Try using an external player like play (emerge sox to get it). If that works I'd just leave it like that. I do.
2) Check ~/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc and make sure 'StartProgress' section is all true's.

3) Add 'arts' USE flag to your /etc/make.conf and do a 'emerge --newuse world'

Type in console: emerge info
That will say the USE flags you have set. To add new USE flags add them to /etc/make.conf .
Code: | USE="x86 X gtk2 -apache -php zlib berkdb" <----- just add them here. |
That is all can think of off the top of my head with the info given. Hope it provides some help. _________________ Support bacteria – they’re the only culture some people have.”

That fixed it, thank you. After emerging sux, I had to enter 'player' as my audio device in the KDE control center ... now things are working as they should.
Thank you,
