|
|
Hi there I have been trying out Gentoo for the past 2 weeks and I simply love it =)
I made 3 installs of stage 3 (first time till I got everything right) and now I decided to go for a stage 1.
But the thing is that I noticed is that my stage 3 installs seemed to be faster than my stage 1. Does anybody else seem to have this problem? For what I understand doing a stage 1 install would make my Gentoo Box even more specific for my PC correct?
like I noticed that my programs don't start as fast as they used too, and that to boot the kernel is taking longer too, maybe a prob with kernel 2.6.12-gentoo-r7? Because on the satge 3 install I used 2.6.12-gentoo-r6
Please post your comments
Thanks>>>John |

compare the CFLAGS you used on the stage1 with the ones used in a stage3. _________________ linux: #232767 |

cflags I used for stage 3 was -march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe
for stage 1 was same as stage 3 plus -mmmx -msse -m3dnow
and chost was i686-pc-linux-gnu for both |

when you use athlon-xp, these clfags : -mmmx -msse -m3dnow are already included.
so .. that means exactly the same.
You think its slower/faster, but basically there is no difference.
Its all in your head. _________________ linux: #232767 |

there is definately a differance. After putting my user name and password I can tell my system is loading not as fast as it used too with stage 3
and firefox takign longer to load the first time.
Just another question, what is Jackass install? I saw some links to some stuff saying it's a stage 1 on a stage 3? And its supposed to be really fast.
Thanks again>>John |

that stuff doesnt make any difference, its just ricers wasting time.
If you think that a stage3 works better, then re-install with a stage3, and feel better about it.
