I think I have the cpufreq up and running using kernel only (2.6.12-gentoo-r7): Code: | # dmesg | grep powernow-k8
powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.40.4)
powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0xc (2000 MHz), vid 0x6 (1400 mV)
powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0xa (1800 MHz), vid 0x8 (1350 mV)
powernow-k8: 2 : fid 0x2 (1000 MHz), vid 0x12 (1100 mV)
powernow-k8: ph2 null fid transition 0xc | but I have one question though. Is the last line an error or is it trying to tell me something? _________________ As of April 2006 - Athlon64 X2 4200+ 1GB RAM - amd64-2006.0 profiled system with portage 2.1_preX, ck-sources-2.6.16, glibc-2.4-r1 (overlay w/-Bdirect&-hashvals), binutils-2.16.91.0.6 (overlay), gcc-4.1, Xorg 7

It's not an error, it's normal. At boot, the kernel tries to transition to the maximum frequency (as some CPUs, like some Athlon XP Mobile, have a startup frequency lower than their maximum). In your case it tries to transition to fid 0xc (2000MHz), but your CPU is already running at fid 0xc (Athlon 64 CPUs start up at their max frequency), so it tells you the transition was a null transition (ie nothing needs to be done). |

Ahh. ok Thanks.
When I booted just now, it had a new line in between. All looks ok, and cool'n quiet works (it lowered the cpu down to 1000) ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) Code: | powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.40.4)
powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0xc (2000 MHz), vid 0x6 (1400 mV)
powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0xa (1800 MHz), vid 0x8 (1350 mV)
powernow-k8: 2 : fid 0x2 (1000 MHz), vid 0x12 (1100 mV)
cpu_init done, current fid 0xc, vid 0x8
powernow-k8: ph2 null fid transition 0xc |
Marking this as [Solved] ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ As of April 2006 - Athlon64 X2 4200+ 1GB RAM - amd64-2006.0 profiled system with portage 2.1_preX, ck-sources-2.6.16, glibc-2.4-r1 (overlay w/-Bdirect&-hashvals), binutils-2.16.91.0.6 (overlay), gcc-4.1, Xorg 7 |
