Tonight I was making a compilation and this morning I found my laptop off. Looking in /var/log/messages I find:
Code: | Aug 9 03:31:15 sotomayor Critical temperature reached (191 C), shutting down.
Aug 9 03:31:15 sotomayor shutdown[10365]: shutting down for system halt
Aug 9 03:31:16 sotomayor init: Switching to runlevel: 0
Aug 9 03:31:22 sotomayor Critical temperature reached (65 C), shutting down.
Aug 9 08:03:31 sotomayor syslog-ng[6314]: syslog-ng version 1.6.8 starting |
Kernel is 2.6.12-gentoo-r6, and I've not upgraded recently. It seems a little strange that my CPU was 191 C, survived, cooled down to 65 in 7 seconds and now it works perfectly. My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra M2 (Centrino 2 GHz with 855 chipset).
Any idea?
Thanks in advance |

191C? Wow that's hot. Sounds like a faulty sensor to me. 191C would melt the case would it not? Does it do the same thing with Windows? _________________ System Specs:

Indeed. No more laptop if CPU is at 191 C.

No, and it never happened with Gentoo before. It's running from more thant three months without any problem. |

Perhaps it was a fluke. If it happens again I'd say its a hardware problem. _________________ System Specs:
