I'm trying to install GRUB for 2.6 but I get the following error:

>>> Merging sys-boot/grub-0.96-r2 to /
cat: /proc/mounts: No such file or directory
cat: /proc/mounts: No such file or directory

I believe I have everything mounted properly though so this is a mystery.

Thanks for any advice

canadian_coder,

You missed
Code:
mount proc -t proc /mnt/gentoo/proc
before you entered the chroot.

If you have set the password with the passwd command, you can long in at VT2 (Press Alt-F2) do the command now and press Alt-F1 to continue.

If you don't know the root passwd, you need to exit the chroot, do the command and re-enter the chroot.
