Is it possible?
I would ideally like to have my Gentoo box accept an incoming connection from a cable modem and do the DCHP, DNS, Etc. for 2 switches, each connected to 1 of the 2 remaining ethernet ports on my PC (1 is already being used for cable), and have those 2 switches connected to Windows / Linux workstations around my house, as well as have the box act as a "file server" so that I can make use of the 640gb of storage I have on it on any of my workstations. I would also like to run a small FTP and Web server for personal use.
I really just want to know if this is all possible with Gentoo as the only OS on this box, as the Windows Server line is far too expensive for my blood. I have searched around a bit and found no one in my situation which is why I post .
Edit: I also forgot to add I would like security features such as a firewall etc. so that all my machines that connect to the net through the switches through this server are protected somehow. |

You should also check out this tutorial for a firewall. I'm going to be using this on my Gentoo Firewall Box.

Awesome, that'll do me just fine for now until I figure out something those guides don't have, which won't be for weeks yet . Thanks. |
