|
|
I've been reading up and have discovered that macs cannot do a full power-down suspend to disk. I'm curious if this is a limit of MacOS or the hardware? Does anyone have a working mac (non-laptop) gentoo install that supports suspend to disk, even if it's not a legit APCI suspend? |

I think it is pretty much a matter of lack of software support for PPC.
The old and deprecated pmdisk system has been patched to support PPC by benh and I have managed to make suspend-to-disk work with it on my G3 Laptop.
Even the current system called swsusp2 suposedly worked on PPC Laptops, there even used to be a PPC guide in their wiki. Then it somehow stopped working and noone has taken care of it since then.
I made a lenghty howto post with detailed information in this forum here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-198186.html
Not one person ever replied! So you can see the reason why we have no suspend-to-disk right there: Not only are the developers not interested in supporting the PPC platform, even the users don't seem to care much.
I must admit even I gave up looking after the issue... with initng and some other tricks to make bootup faster and session saving in KDE and Xfce... so my information might even be a bit old since I haven't checked the swsusp mailing lists for quite a while now. _________________ There's too much blood in my coffeine system... |

Just responded to your post above ... also do you know if a bug was posted for the ppc version stopping working?? as it says ppc is supported on the suspend2 website.

it's been my intention to build a carpc for a while now and originally i was going to use a mini-itx board. with the release of the mac mini, i've been exploring using that. automatic suspend to disk seems to be the main hurdle. i can get an ATX DC power supply that will automatically power a pc up and down with the car, but that's not looking promising with the mini. |
