hello everybody,
i am trying to get gentoo running on my alphapc 164lx
this is what i get when i try to boot with boot dqa0 -flags 0
Code: |
initializing page table at fff0000
initializing machine state
setting affinity to the primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code
aoobt: Linux/Alpha SRM bootloader version 1.0_pre20040408
aboot: switching to OSF/1 PALcode version 1.23
aboot: booting from device 'IDE 0 11 0 0 0 0 0'
aboot: valid disklabel found: 4 partitions.
ext2 sb read failed
aboot: mount of partition 4 failed
Welcome to aboot 1.0_pre20040408
Commands:

i configured my hdd like discribed in the gentoo/alpha installation handbook
when i run i get this:
Code: |
Detected an OSF/1 disklabel on /dev/hda, entering disklabel mode.
BSD disklabel command (m for help): p
4 partitions:
# start end size fstype [fsize bsize cpg]
a: 3 125 123 swap
b: 126 15320 15195 ext2
c: 1 30515 30515 unused 0 0
d: 15196 30514 15319 ext2
BSD disklabel command (m for help):
|
using cfdisk does not work. when i try i get the answer
Code: |
Unknown partition tble type
Do you wish to start with a zero table [y/N] ?
|
i could imagine this is normal (???)
i want to boot from d:, this is IMO partition 4
there i have configured:
/etc/aboot.conf
Code: |
0:4/vmlinux.gz ro root=/dev/hda4
|
i tried
Code: |
swriteboot -v /dev/hda /boot/bootlx
|
what answers:
Code: |
error: bootcode overlaps with partition #3. If you really want this, use -f3
|
so i did:
Code: |
swriteboot -v -f3 /dev/hda /boot/bootlx
|
and i get
Code: |
preserving boot partition 4
bootsize:173 sectors
bootsect:2
done!
|
and later i entered:
Code: |
abootconf /dev/hda 4
|
with no answer
so, i looked at all this again and again,
i do not know whats wrong
hopefully someone here knows
thanks in advance and kind regards

i am not really sure why, but i definitly got it working
i created a little boot partition on the beginning of the hdd where only the kernel is
this way it works normally
could this be a bug that aboot cannot handle quite large partitions?
it is from 1996, so... |
