Hi
could it be that gentoo is kind of too strict in categorizing packages as not stable?? I installed gentoo on a current samsung notebook with ati radeon 9600, intel ipw2200... to use last-mentionend and others, I had to install a bunch of packages marked as "unstable".. ipw2200 to use monitor mode, fglrx because "stable" version doesn't compile blabla.. What is that category for?

Unstable pachages are marked stable if they were working without problems over some time.
They will stay unstable if there are importent bugs inside or if they are not working together with other packages.
