First of all, is install-x86-universal-2005.1.iso a live cd, install cd, or both? Second, when botting form the CD, how do you start the graphical environment? |

Well, it is a live cd in the sense that booting it will get you into a working linux environment. From there, it is also an install cd, since it has all you need to start installing gentoo. There is no graphical environment, though. What you get is a shell, which is enough to install gentoo. |

Your best having a read of the manual.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml
If you type:
Code: | links http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml |
When your in the Gentoo enviroment then you can read the manual whilst in Gentoo. |

Well,
go here, select your machine architecture (probably x86) and start reading.
And if you have any problems, come back and ask _________________ Jim

I believe what you are asking is ..is x86 universal a "real live cd" and the answer is no. Go to the experimental folder and download that iso. That will boot in to a gnome enviroment and you can run the installer from there. |
