Trying to start SysV-Init Editor. It asks for root password, which I enter, then I get KDEinit cannot launch kdesu. Also in a console su'ed to root I can't open editors. Kwrite for instance. On Debian I had a similar problem with users su'ed to root in bash console. Someone gave me a bit of script to add to .bashrc in /root. Strangely in Debian I have both in /home/user & /root 2 files that are missing in Gentoo. .bashrc & .bash_profile. I do have .bash_history though. Also before the prompt in the konsole is a bit odd. "bash-2.05b $" when all my other distros have something like "djmons@localhost djmons $" and according to my hostname in Gentoo it should be "djmons@tux djmons $" . Any help would be really appreciated. I can't face reinstalling Gentoo on dial-up again. Nigel.
By the way. I re-emerged bash in case there was a problem with it, thought it might make the 2 missing files, but no. Also kdesu is definately there as a binary file in /usr/kde/3.3/bin . Along with kdesu_stub, and a padlocked kdesud . |
