I made a bad boo-boo: i ran emerge depclean without pretend. Before I realised my mistake, a lot of needed packages were already gone. I have been able to re-emerge most of the important ones. But an important problem I have now, is that good ole' X won't start. No error message, just a completely black screen. And I can't get back to the console with CTRL+ALT+Fn (1<=n<=6). I can't even properly shut down with CTRL+ALT+DEL, only the Big Black Button (tm) works. I tried emerging xorg-x11, but that didn't help. I started emerge -e world, but even on an AthlonXP 3000 it may take a couple of days to recompile 1000+ packages... :-(
