I feel very stupid but I don't know how to play dvd

Trying to use gmplayer ans xine..
have I to mount first or just play like I do with cd audio?

what software do you suggest?

Piaga,

You don't need to mount DVDs to play them. You need to be in the audio and cdrom groups to use the audio and cdrom devices as your ordinary user.

Xine and gmplayer are good. I prefer the command line mplayer for debug as it gives lots of useful messages in its xterm window.

When using xine just make sure that the correct device is set in the configuration (the standard /dev/dvd is ok in most cases). Then simply press "g" to display the GUI (if it is not already being displayed) and click the DVD-Button.
If you get an error message please post it here!

I'm in the video and cdrom group of course.

Piaga,

Both udev and devfs should have done that for you.
The implication is that the dynamaic management of /dev is broken on your system.
