|
I have the nvidia in the kernel along with it under the modprobe....
anyways, when I startx, it gives the basic info, then I get the nvidia splash screen, and then finally it goes back to the terminal. I would like startx to start Xorg is kde...
I can open gnome with xdm, and kde with kdm, but startx fails me. Any ideas why? _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!

Hi.
In the file /etc/rc.conf at the bottom you have the variable XSESSION.
Unkomment this and set it to KDE-3.4.2 (If thats what you run)
This can be overided by the ~/.xsession in the homedirs. |

I've tried setting it to both "gnome" and "kde-3.4" but they both yield the same result..
and can you explain the xsession at all (I saw .xinitrc in a help file somewhere too...) _________________ Gentoomania! Support the Open Source!

The startup scrips of the x is searching for some files when you do
a startx. If it finds the .xinitrc in your homedir it uses this to run
something. For example i have 'exec ut2004' in my.
So if i kill the xdm by Code: | /etc/init.d/xdm stop | the run startx,
it starts the x sever and ut2004.
So if you do a file in your homedir
and put
Quote: | /usr/kde/3.4/bin/startkde |
in that file it should start kde when you do a startx.
The same goes for .xsessions it overide the default session setting.
But it is odd that it would not show anything when you run startx. The
normal twm manager and som windows should show up. |
