|
|
I recently installed MacOSX on my AMD64 System and tried
to install portage on it.
The first installation steps work fine, but 'emerge system' causes
an error because of a PPC specific compiler switch.
So I would like to ask: Can I expect Portage for OSX to work at
all on my machine?
Thanks in advance |

where do you get an error? for me it is working just fine.
these are (the relevant parts) of my make.conf
ARCH="x86"
CHOST="x86-apple-darwin8"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc-macos" |

How many packages can be compiled with that "ACCEPT ~ppc-macos" config?
I'm getting a MacBook next week, but I think I'll stick to Fink for the time being. Just 150 out of 1750 packages don't compile in Fink on X86 architecture.
And it seems there is still a long way till we get the "prefix-ed" Portage.... Is there any roadmap on this project? |

I've installed prefixed portage on my MacBook Pro. It had a few glitches, so I started a thread to discuss problems. The only major disappointment is that there aren't many ebuilds in the svn portage tree they have you use. I wonder what modifications/testing is required to port an ebuild.
[EDIT] My needs are kind of odd, I need gcc-4.2 and blas-atals and lapack-atlas and none of them are in the prefixed portage. Prefixed prtage may be just fine for you, depending on what you need out of it. [/EDIT] _________________ Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities. --Voltaire |

~x86-macos is well tested and well supported (using i686-apple-darwinX CHOST) on official Apple hardware only. _________________ Gentoo on a different level |
