I have just installed Gentoo 2005.1 and upon selecting Gentoo from the Lilo display it begins to boot for a second until it gets only a little way in loading until it gets to the sound drivers and stops dead and says
Code: | isapnp detection failed and probing for CS4236+ is not supported |
This is my first install/experience with Gentoo obviously.
My first experience compiling a kernel was when I installed one today. I manually configured the gentoo-sources kernel (2.6.12-gentoo-r6) and as such, I probably compiled a lot of extra's and such that I should not have. (I selected a lot of sound drivers that thought I would need as I have had a lot of problems with sound with every distro I use) I did make sure that everything in the guide book was selected for compling.
Should I recompile the kernel again and leave the selections on the defaults or is there some other way to get around this error and get gentoo to boot? Did I not select pnp (plug and play???) support in the kernel?

As this is your first boot with the new install I would recompile the kernel with the base drivers, get Gentoo working and then address the sound drivers at a later stage.
Better to get a running system and then set up the sound. (You can live without it in the short term) _________________ Aerosolo ergo sum - I spray therefore I am

It was an error I made when I compiled the kernel. I had selected a couple of experimental pnp apps. I unselected them and recompiled and now it boots to the prompt.
Thanks for your help. _________________ My get up and go must have got up and left. |
