|
|
i installed and configured xorg-x11.
when i startx Xsession and fluxbox both start without any problems.
my problem is when i want to start directly into the graphical env.
it stops at the text-mode login and X doesnt start automatically.
i am happy with every hint. _________________ The generation of random numbers is too important to be left to chance.

First, open up /etc/rc.conf with a text editor and ensure that all that is setup the way you want it. Save the file, then run rc-update add xdm default and you're good to go with a graphical login! _________________ emerge --info

Its butt ugly though. I'd rather do console login. |

In rc.conf you might want to use a different login manager instead of regular XDM. I personally prefer either entrance or gdm. Kdm is okay too.
Just adding xdm to the default runlevel is not enough unless you've rebooted. What does the following show from the CLI?
Code: | /etc/init.d/xdm start |

Hehe, ok... it wasn't a few, only about half of them were gnome stuff but still... The guy on the link I posted made it sound like it wasn't that much that needed installing. But have you tried doing "emerge -a gdm -v" and fooled around a bit with the USE flags on the ebuilds? Maybe you can get some of them to go away? |
