Gentoo/XP on my laptop and headless desktop. I only use Gentoo on the desktop, but on the laptop I occasionally boot into XP to game.

I tried fedora, redhat, ubuntu, mandrake (a while ago) slackware (ugh) and a few others I can't think of right now but for more than a year its been Gentoo on my desktop, laptop, and piece of crap router/firewall box that performs beautifully despite its pathetic hardware and so far I've converted half my family to gentoo (although I do all the dirty work). I have to admit I have an XP box that gets turned on once every 6 months or so to do something dumb that i can't figure out how to do with linux and also of course if theres a free windows program that does what i need in that case ;) if its not free -- fsck it

Its amazing though.... no matter how much I UTTERLY DESPISE waiting for 100 packages to compile... gentoo and portage are just so great I can't possibly switch to something else. I was just talking to someone about this yesterday and then I happened upon this thread.

Gentoo is my main OS. I have three hard drives: The first one has my Gentoo and Vista on it. The second has all my personal data. The third one is for testing various things like FreeBSD and OSX86. I also keep an XP virtual machine that I run in VirtualBox, so I won't need to boot in Vista just to run a Windows program.

I also have a Redhat CD that's autographed by Linus Torvalds... but it's ancient; I think I last installed it on a 386 :-)

At home the desktop has Gentoo with 1 gaming partition with WindowsXP the other machine is Gentoo.

At work WindowsXP/Vista as Desktop

I tried Opensolaris, RedHat, Fedora, CentOS, Suse, gOS, BSDs etc. Most of them come with a bundle of packages or desktop environments, that I just personal do not want/need. Also I am too lazy to uninstall or disable all the stuff (bind, httpd on a desktop, samba, avahi, networkmanager, wlan, rdesktop kind of things) like in Windows.

To answer the question: whereever I install an OS, Gentoo is the first choice.

Just Gentoo, but I may have to install XP if I want to play games that are better than 2D.

I've been using XP/Vista as my main on my desktop for a year or so now, mainly because of games. But now that I primarily play games that I know for sure work with Wine/Cedega, I'm considering dual booting and weaning myself gradually off Windows.

For now, though, I still have Gentoo on my laptop.

I use gentoo as my main OS. I also run gentoo on my router/firewall, and built a gentoo computer for my brother. The only time I ever use any other distro is when fixing someones computer of windows, and I won't be around to help maintain the system (though, that didn't stop them from wrecking windows (moreso) in the first place.)

New to Gentoo, so I keep Debian installed on another partition as the "stable" OS I have here. However I haven't booted into it for quite some time...

Only have Gentoo on my computer so yes!
Love all the tweaks you can do and of course portage.

ps. at a LAN-party at the moment, and I'm asked to host all the games we play since they run more stable in wine than for the others here using vista/xp

Yes, Gentoo is my main OS, I use it on

-Desktop at work
-Thinkpad
-Desktop at home
-A digital picture frame made from my old laptop with a 4GB compact flash drive for the root partition

Hopefully I will soon be installing gentoo on a "mini-cluster" consisting of 4 power edge servers with dual quad core Xeon E55XX each, that would be nice :)

At home and at work.
Of course I've got a Windows installed, but I never use it. :)

Cheers!

I also have installed Gentoo in my iBook G4, but I don't use it, and I will install OSX Leopard to use iTunes and manage the iPhone I want to buy :P
