now I can't get it back on.
Everything seemed to be working fine. I reinstalled Gentoo, ndiswrapper (broadcom card), and things have been going very well, especially after having spent countless hours trying to get my previous install to work (though many thanks to everyone who helped me with that).
I finally got my wireless card to pop up, and then I had the brilliant idea of testing the physical button on the laptop. The light blinked out, and now it won't come back up.
Any ideas?
J.

I've done this accidentally once or twice on my Dell laptop. The only way I've gotten to re-enable the wireless card is to boot to Windows, hit the button again, then boot back to Gentoo. Sucks, but that's what works for me. |

What command did you use to turn it off? Usually, control of the Ethernet cards, wireless or otherwise, is done through ifconfig as root. If you killed the card, the way to get it back would be running
ifconfig ethX up (where X is the number, usually 0 for wired or 1 for wireless)
and then the dhcp client of your choice. I use DHCPCD, so I run
dhcpcd eth1
Good luck.

I'm guessing he actually hit something like Fn-F2 on a Dell laptop. That's got a little transmission tower icon with radio waves radiating from it. |
