use amarok, when recently got udev/hal/dbus working on my machine for use with pluggable usb drive. the usb works fine, but has seriously borked my amarok install--it wont use gstreamer as gstreamer gives an error. arts sounds like ass as it doesnt use hardware mixing so when fade occurs it skips. gst-register quits with an error: | Code: | gst-register-0.8

yes, but not because i explicitly invoked it, i believe it was installed with another package. I am attempting an: | Code: | | emerge --newuse musicbrainz |
now, to see if new use flags i installed (and the | Code: | | emerge --deep --update --verbose --newuse world |
was blocked by some of the experimental kde packages i have) Thanks for the insight |

gst-register still complains about that plugin--im stumped, guess ill reemerge musicbrainz seeing as it didnt help...........
Anyone have any ideas? |

ok, i think i did try that last night (tried a lot of stuff, all unsuccessful) so reverted to the old system (is it me or are the split ebuilds a pain--arts-multimedia is blocked by kdemultimedia under 3.4--thats oddd!!)
Anyway, hoping to resolve this sooner or later, i can live with manuallly mounting the usb stuff i suppose, for the time being........... |

| ok i fixed this by recompiling most of the gst-plugins with gcc-vanilla instead of gcc-hardened. it works now. Hope this helps others. |

For anyone consulting this thread trying to get amarok and gstreamer to play nicely together, if you've compiled all of the gstreamer pieces but amarok either tells you to select an audio engine when you start it, or exits when you try to play something, try also switching to the same gcc-vanilla profile you used to rebuild gstreamer, and emerging amarok again. It's also possible that just rebuilding it with your normal profile will work; it may just need to link against the new (working) version of gstreamer, or detect it, or something.
Once you can successfully do the gstreamer test from the Amarok Wiki FAQ, then it's time to look at amarok!  |
