Hi.
Problem: Have Squeezebox2 (wireless mp3/flac player). This has bridging capability, with crossover cable. Works excellent on XP. Does not work on Gentoo musicserverbox.
Suspected Reason: The networkcard "is not active" / is not detected by squeezebox. No lights or any signs of activity when I insert the crossovercable. The networkcard works, I use it to ssh into my musicserver. The musicserver runs dhcpd at default runlevel.
Further symptoms: When I boot with ethernetcable in place, I get an Ip-adress. Then trying to switch to crossovercable, I get no lights whatsoever. When I then reiinsert the ethernetcable, I don't get an ip-adress/get back on lan. Probably needs to rerun dhcpd.
Is there any command I can issue, to make the network-card "active" when I insert the crossovercable? So that squeezebox senses it?Extra complication here is of course that I can not connect to the server and have the crossovercable inserted at the same time, as it only has one networkcard. Thought of using cron to run dhcpd every other minute, but don't know..
Any suggestions is heartily welcome:) _________________ Here will soon come something funny.. |

mustard,
I think what you need id ifplug (or is it ifplugd?)
Anyway, it detects the interface being connected and gets you an IP address. _________________ Regards,

hello, thanks for FAST suggestion:)
Well, that did some good. I am now able to plug and unplug the ethernetcable on will. But still no luck with the crossovercable. No lights or anything when I insert it. Lights do come on when I plug it in the Xp-machine.. _________________ Here will soon come something funny.. |

Have you tried assigning an IP manually with ifconfig?
If you don't know an IP to assign look it up in XP with the command "ipconfig /all" and assign that IP in Gentoo. |

No, i haven't. but it gets an ip when connected to the lan. When I go off the lan, I am no longer in contact with my server, as I only have ssh-access (no keyboard/screen available)..
The Xp it works on is my dual-booted Gentoo/Xp laptop. Funny thing is, It also works on the Gentoo I have on my laptop. Could this be due to base-layout? I emerged some experimental base-layout to get wireless going. _________________ Here will soon come something funny.. |
