these are erros whitch i got from the nvidia installator
Code: |
No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes)
-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
your kernel.
|
and after it try to build kernell on itself
Code: |
nvidia.ko failed to build!
make[1]: *** [module] Error 1
make: *** [module] Error 2
-> Error.
ERROR: Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

I know this is a silly question but, have you emerged nvidia-kernel first, which is supposed to be that missing interface?? |

That is not the way. You must first compile the kernel, make /usr/src/linux point to its source directory and then "emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx" . I usually compile the new kernel, change /use/src/linux symlinc, reboot with that kernel and then emerge both packages, so I don't know if you should reboot before emerging or you can do it with the old kernel running. |

You should have no problem compiling and installing everything while using the "old" kernel. |
