Whenever I boot my machine up I'm getting the following errors in dmesg:
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
ide0: reset: success
Once the machine is on nothing further shows up in /var/log/messages. Do these
indicate that the drive is dying? or that there is a problem with the ide controller?
or something else? _________________ somehow this should all make sense.. |

I'm afraid the drive may be dying. If you can, try it in another box, and try and try another drive in place of this one - see if the same thing comes up. Also, make sure you do a full fsck on all your partitions and back up anything you'd miss in the event of a crash. |

Hey there,
That error sux. I had it, thought one of many things:
1. hd drive is on its way out.
2. bad cables
3. bad mobo
I replaced the drive. 1 week later, the same errs kept popping up. Then my power supply fan starting sounding real creaky. So, just for a try, I put in a different power supply. Guess what ? That's correct, everything is ok. I tried putting the old drive that I thought was on its way out back in and it is fine. The power supply was fsck'ing up the timing on my mobo.
This may not be your situ, but just thought some diferent light on the same problem may help.
regards,

The power supply in the box is a 4 year old 250W. The case all up cost me $40AUS, so I imagine the quality of the power supply isn't so great _________________ somehow this should all make sense.. |
