I have been a user of Mandrake linux for a couple of months now, things went well :D. I'm getting used to it, and was advised to install Gentoo, as their is a lot of control about what you want installed, that rang bells in my head, :x, being an x WINDOWS user.

I'm running an AMD64-2GHz-1MegRam, system, with Nvidia card FX-5600.

My question is that I want to do eveything in the right order, in the first instance to get KDE up and running properly.

I have started by doing the following:

1. Installed Gentoo manually via LiveCD, kernel-2.6.12-gentoo-r6
2. Emerge kde-meta, which is taking some time, and still waiting.
3. WHAT DO I DO NEXT...

How far did you get in the installation ? What is your problem ?
Is something not working ? Can you boot up on your gentoo system ?

From what you say, it sounds like you installed everything. If so, I guess you just need to use it now
There is a section in the doc that explains what to do after the installation, you might wanna take a look at it.

Question : Could you show me the result of your 'fdisk -l' ? I am still stuck in the installation process because of grub. My config is VERY close to yours :)

Configure X? Configure X? Install more packages? :)

Read any tips the installation handbook has and then go through all the howto:s for setting up 3d-acceleration and other stuff that is available on the home page and the wiki.

You could bide your time reading docs with man and lynx to familiarize yourself with the system.

I have run the command:

Xorg -configure

and got the following result:

Failed to load module "i810". Something to do with the MOUSE

Any ideas
