I just bought a shiney new ASUS A8N-SLI Premium and I happily using it. When I was hooking it up I noticed it has two ethernet cards, one Marvell and the other nForce4. Im currently using the Marvell one because it has better Linux support but I do sometimes need to hook up an additional computer in my room. Is there a way I can let the nForce4 ethernet card work as a hub for me?

Thanks

nuke

What do you mean by 'ethernet hub' ? You mean like a router? What's the main purpose for connecting the other computer to the main one?

So you have two ethernet cards? There would only be two ethernet ports. You use one for your internet, and you want the second one to be a router? Well a router usually has 4 ports extra, to expand the internet to. Do you want to have your incoming ethernet work as a outgoing port on the second card? So you just hook up another computer to your second ethernet port and get internet. I do not know the answer, but I'm trying to help others help you.

So , yes. You have to make your computer act like a router. I don't know to tell you the exact syntax , but it's just about 1-2 iptables lines to acomplish that. You can also bridge the two eth cards (emerge bridge-tools && man brctl ), to make your two nics have the same network class (like 192.168.0.*)
