Since I'm working with Gentoo on a different computer than this one, I can't offer any screenshots or output lisings. However, I found this in another one of the threads in this forum:

Code:
linux # emerge lm_sensors
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) sys-apps/lm_sensors-2.9.1 to /
>>> md5 files   ;-) lm_sensors-2.8.7.ebuild
>>> md5 files   ;-) lm_sensors-2.9.0.ebuild
>>> md5 files   ;-) lm_sensors-2.9.1.ebuild
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/rc
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/digest-lm_sensors-2.8.7
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/digest-lm_sensors-2.9.0
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.9.1-sensors-detect-gentoo.patch
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.8.7-sensors-detect-gentoo.diff
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.8.8-sensors-detect-gentoo.diff
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/digest-lm_sensors-2.9.1
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.9.1-lm_sensors-init.d
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.9.1-sensord-conf.d
>>> md5 files   ;-) files/lm_sensors-2.9.1-sensord-init.d
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) lm_sensors-2.9.1.tar.gz

!!! CONFIG_I2C_SENSOR not detected
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

This WAS exaclty my problem, but I (seemingly) fixed it by following the instructions in other threads pertaining to this same problem. My new problem is that now, instead of that error message, I'm getting an error message complainging about CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV instead. Basically, if you substitute CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV in the above listing for CONFIG_I2C_SENSOR you get my error message. Any idea how to fix the CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV problem?

I have tried compiling EVERY chipset listed in Device Drivers ---> I2C support ---> I2C Hardware Bus support -and- Hardware Sensors Chip support directly into my kernel, but the .config file keeps listing "CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV is not set" after I execute "make && make modules_install." Not only that, but the "CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV is not set" line in .config is commented out, so I feel like something is not quite right here. Anybody have any suggestions?

I'm running Gentoo 2005.1 with the 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 kernel. Thanks in advance!
