|
|
As with any new install, I have to do a little nit picking to be at home with the OS. I am a little obsessive-compulsive when it comes to my desktop, so this is sorta important.
1. I can't get sound to work, at all. I have an nforce 2 chipset, and I am (trying) to use the nvsound module for the driver. All I have done so far is add 'alias sound-slot0 nvsound' to modprobe.conf, as the instructions for the module go. Plus, KDE keeps telling me it is using the 'null sound driver'.
2. Scroll wheel doesn't work. I'm sure the solution is pretty simple...
3. Every once in a while (not very often) the cursor goes crazy and jumps to the sides of the screen repeatedly, making it impossible to use it. I't seems like it does this for no reason at all, just randomly.
EDIT: 4. I have no idea how to use my printer. (I am clueless when it comes to networking ) The printer is just connected to my router, and so is my computer.

Have you read this? http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml

In xorg.conf you need to add the ZAxisMapping option.
Code: | Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
|
To setup your mouse for using on the console read this: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gpm.xml

1: After following the also configuration guide, I got sound to work, but the kernel provided alsa module for nforce is HORRID! It sounds like I have $2 speakers from the background static and the sounds usually have a 2 second delay before they play. Is it possible to use the nVidia provided driver module, nvsound, for alsa? EDIT: I realize that nvsound is for OSS and that my sound will probably never be fixed
Also, I get something like this message at boot: FATAL: module snd_*** could not be found
and this at shutdown: Unloading ALSA Modules [ ! ! ]
2: It works now
3: I switched my mouse from PS/2 to USB, and it doesn't happen anymore. However, my cursor moves slower that I would like it to now. How would I speed it up? |

You should really use the i8x0 driver for your soundcard. _________________
