Further to my previous thread, how can i now get the 2004.3 livecd to detect my net card as it currently fails to do so. Doesnt cause too many problems, it would just be nice to be able to install gentoo from a native gentoo environment.
Compaq Deskpro Intel Pentium MMX @ 166mhz.

Hai,
try to boot with ACPI disabled (kernel parameter noacpi). If this does not help, diesable APM as well. |

You need the 3c59x module. I'm not sure if it's on that licecd. Try:
Let me know how that works out.

ive just been reading up on some problems with other 3com cards. i.e. the 590c, mine is a 509c
seeing disabling nearly everything possible in every possible combination, still nothing works.
Seems, it was suddenly worth keeping that pendrive/knoppix combo. |

Seems completing this thread somehow slipped my mind.
Well for the sake of continuity, here's the solution.
Now dont ask what or why, just trust me this works:
from a successful boot, step by step:-
$ modprobe 3c509
$ dhcpcd eth0
$ rm /var/run/dhcpcd-eth0.pid
$ dhcpcd eth0
Nice little bug that may need looking into I think,
least I got it working, though.
Farewell,
Scouse. |
