Hi,
I run Gentoo amd64. At beginning while installing the OS I was able to run from my console startx and I was presented with the graphical X interface, the one with three windows (a big one on the left and two small ones on the right). I would then type glxinfo for test purpose.
After I installed my nVidia drivers, installed KDE I do not get this grapgical interface anymore. I start my PC, without kdm automatically starting kde. At console, I login as root and type startx. I get another kind of grapgical interface: four buttons on the top left corned this is all.
What happened to the previous X interface?
How to get it back? Why back: because if I need to run glxinfo how would I be able to do so at this state?
Please advice...
Thank you,
Spiro |

The default window manager, the one you originally had, is twm, included with xorg.
Edit /etc/rc.conf and set XSESSION="Xsession", that should bring it back with startx.
If it dosen't work, check to see if you have an ~/.xinitrc file.
If so, try temporarily renaming the file (it overides the default in rc.conf if it exists). _________________ "You have to invite me in" |
