When I boot I get a few almost similar messages telling me that I need to set HOSTNAME, CLOCK and KEYMAPS in /etc/conf.d/... and not in rc.conf.

The manual (2005.0) is clear about this: set them in rc.conf.

Is this a change in the 2005.1 profile (which I don't have), or is something different going on?

What should I do, change them all to /etc/conf.d/... or keep them in rc.conf and maybe even delete the files in /etc/conf.d/?

This was a change to a baselayout package that happened to occur while 2005.0 was the latest liveCD, it is not specific to the 2005.1 liveCD

it is giving you a warning now to do it, since in future releases of a baselayout update it will not parse rc.conf for the relevant info.

a small amount of pain now for an easier life later

So basicly I need to set everything in conf.d?

is rc.conf going to be completely obsolite and does that mean I don't have to have that rc.conf anymore as of today?

Thanks, after commenting out the settings in rc.conf and a reboot I only had the HOSTNAME problem, but that's obvious because it's not set in rc.conf.

removing /etc/hostname will do that trick.
