Hi everyone! I tried to install gentoo but i had some problems...
I tried to boot the install cd for amd64/em64t but it fails to mount the cd (at leas that's what i'm guessin here). I tried the default kernel with some options like noapic, docache and dopcmcia. Still, it didn't worked... :(
Here's the output:
Code:
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda1
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda2
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda3
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda4
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/sda5
>> Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/hda
>> No bootable medium found. Waiting for new devices...
(...)
!! Could not find CD to boot, something else needed!
(... keymap loading)
!! The root block device is unspecified or not detected
Please specify a device to boot or "shell" for a shell...
boot() ::

It seems like it can't mount the cdrom... What should i do? I'm a bit of a newbie... Any ideas?
Thanks!

trymeout,

If you have more than one CD drive, you must boot from the first one. Thats where the install CD looks for its root filesystem.

If your CD drive is attached by Firewire, USB, or SATA, then try the "doscsi" boot option.

I only have one drive which also reads DVDs...

I'll try that!

Thank you

Didn't work! Unfortunately...

I entered the shell and typed:
Code:
/ # mount
/proc on /proc type proc (rw,nodiratime)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw)
/ # mkdir /mnt/cdrom
/ # mount /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom
*** Some error I forgot to copy ***

It looks like the cd drive can't be mounted...
I have ubuntu installed and everything worked out fine! I must be missing something here...
Don't know what else to do... :(

trymeout,

Install through ubuntu unless you intended to wipe that. See the alternate install guide.

I was willing to remove ubuntu from my computer and replace it for gentoo. Otherwise I'll have 3 OS on the same computer! :)
Perhaps I could use some floppy disks instead...

You didn't mention how your CD drive is attached, or any other details about your hardware ...

True... My bad! sorry... The drive is internal. I haven't seen its specs yet, so I can't tell you much.
Anyway, I finally solved this issue. It was as simple as booting the default kernel with the "irqpoll" option, as suggested on the dmesg output (which i didn't place here cause it's enormous)!

Thank you all for your help! It was much apreciated!
