I've been using reiserFS for the past two years. Very good, but I've been looking into XFS or reiser4 for my next Gentoo install (on a laptop if that makes any difference).
Which in your opinion is the best file-system? _________________ If it happens, it's possible. |

Thank you very much for starting a new thread about such an important topic.
This has only been discussed 1000 times already, but I have a feeling your expertly worded question will shed new light on a most important issue! _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)

You're absolutely right, Dlareh. But I ask this question because software changes rapidly, and reiser4 may be more suitable today than it was 2 months ago.
What do you think? _________________ If it happens, it's possible. |

A lot of people like resier, but I've seen too many stoires of data loss under wierd ciurcumstances. I find that ext3 with good journal settings (search for the thread about it here) is both very fast and very very safe.
Basically, ext3 is so reliable (because ext2 is) that any unexpected data loss is almost guaranteed to be a hardware problem.
I think reliability is more important than feeling l33t.... JMHO. Unless you're running a production database server, I doubt you'd ever notice any filesystem speed issues in any case. |
