hello there
I have a network with two pc's (Gentoo & WinXP) and a notebook(Gentoo) configured trough dhcp.
My DHCP server is a DSL-router ( Gigaset SE 515) .
Here is my problem:
I want to export a nfs filesystem only to the notebook but because of the dhcp i cannot fix it with an ip number.
Further i do not want to use statically assigned ip addresses.
So is there a way of binding mac addresses with hostnames?
Do i have to use an internal DNS-server or something similar?
I also searched my router settings for such a service but i didnt find anything.
--maybe this is router specific |

Can't you do a DHCP mac address reservavtion in your router? That will ensure you get the same DHCP address every time. Otherwise you have to use static IPs (or get a better router). _________________ While your waiting for your post to be answered, please help with unanswered posts. |

Thank you for your support!
Yes there is an ip reservation option -- my fault.
That did it !!!
I was searching for a hostname-mac binding.
I suppose there must be some kind of internal dns-server integrated into the router to use this service. |
