yeah i am having same the same problem, and judging by what the Xorg logs tell me, it might be the nvidia driver.
Code: | bok ~ # grep 1280x800 /var/log/*
/var/log/Xorg.0.log:(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1280x800" (no mode of this name)
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old:(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1280x800" (no mode of this name)
|
might try nv driver, but that obviously means no acceleration :-/
I am using the latest driver too.

I didn't know my hsync and vsync so i guessed, do anyone know how to guess the hsync and vsync or how i can see it from windows (I have a partition with it because of school).
Code: |
louise kawsper # grep 1280x768 /var/log/*
/var/log/Xorg.0.log:(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1280x768@60.00" (hsync out of range)
/var/log/Xorg.0.log:(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using mode "1280x768" (no mode of this name)

hrmmm power strip seems to be giving me incorrect info about my monitor. what did it report for you?
when you say "now it runs perfectly", does this mean you are running it with a res of 1280x800? do your logs have any errors regarding your res? would you mind posting the monitor, screen and device sections of your xorg.conf for my perusal?
thanks in advance

Sure.
I installed powerstrip, run it, and rightclicked on its icon down left to the clock, Display Defaults -> Configure. Hsync and Vsync stands there. I can post you my xorg.conf when i am home, i cant boot into linux right now, because i did experience crashes with the newest nvidia driver, so i tried to install an older one. It didnt work proporly, my screen hangs and i cant do nothing. Anyone knows how to disable gdm on bootup? _________________ Laptop: Zepto 2314W, Pentium M 730, 512 Mb Pc-3200

powerstrip ....
Maximum resolution - 1600 x 1200 at 0Hz
Maximum refresh rate - 0 Hz at 640 x 480
so i tried running at 1600x1200 and i couldnt see half the screen :-/
i would like to try 1600x1200@0Hz, but i dont think the image quality would be very good at 0Hz :D
It was nice of my boss to buy my this laptop, but it's been driving me insane... this video issue, and no support for the ethernet device. I never thought i would say this, but i prefer using it with windoze. |
